January Gent most recently posted a 2 ¾-length win in a $37,750 claiming purse at Monmouth Park on Friday, June 18, and was claimed from the race. He will no longer race for IEAH Stables and others and trainer Richard Dutrow Jr.
     January Gent lived up to favored billing ($5.00) by breaking first from the outside post position under jockey Garrett Gomez, moving to a stalking position outside, and putting forth a sustained wide rally for the victory. He struck the lead at the stretch call (58.09) and extended his advantage late to complete six furlongs in 1:11.23 over a fast main track, good for a 77 Beyer Speed Figure.
     Gulf Cat finished second, a neck in front of third-place finisher Precious Package, who raced on or near the early pace (22.32, 45.64).
     The Equibase chart for the race read, “January Gent stalked outside, bid four wide at the quarter pole and drew clear late, driving.” He earned $16,500 in purses.
     K’s Revenge was scratched. Eleven horses went to the post in the race open to ages 3 and up.
     January Gent was claimed for $5,000 by owner/trainer David Nunn. January Gent, a 5-year-old gelded son of Wiseman’s Ferry – January Angel, by Carson City, has a lifetime mark of 5-5-0 ($162,300) from 13 starts. For IEAH, his record was 10-3-4-0 ($101,300).
