Expect the End, owned by IEAH Stables and others and trained by Richard Dutrow Jr., put in a mild early bid but then gave way when she finished seventh, beaten 14 ½ lengths, making her latest start in the $65,000 Little Silver Stakes at Monmouth Park on Saturday, May 31. Eddie Castro rode Expect the End, who went to the post at odds of 4.20-1. Expect the End broke fifth from post position 8 and did get to fourth, within a couple of lengths of the leaders, in the early stages but couldn’t progress thereafter. Saki to Me rallied from off the pace (23.92, 46.98, 1:12.06) in midpack to make a two-length lead in the stretch and last for a half-length victory over Forest Trail, favored at 2.00-1, with Dagger another four lengths back in third. Saki to Me is a daughter of Fusaichi Pegasus – Buy the Cat, by Storm Cat. She returned $44.80 to bettors. She completed one mile in 1:38.72 over a muddy main track and received a 74 Beyer Speed Figure; Expect the End earned a 48. The Equibase chart for the race read, “Expect the End in a bit close entering the clubhouse turn and five wide, raced between rivals down the backstretch and lacked the needed bid then tired through the lane.” She earned $650 in purses. Mikeslittlegirl, Namaste’s Wish, Yippety Yip, Reata’s Vixen, and Catmosphere were scratched from the race open to 3-year-old fillies and originally scheduled for the turf course. A field of nine started. LAST UPDATED: June 4, 2008 |
