IEAH Stables privately acquired a managing ownership interest in Leniently in October 2005. She gave birth to a City Zip filly in 2005, a Judge T C colt in 2006, and a Grand Slam filly on April 9 this year. She is currently boarded at Dan Barraclough's Saratoga Glen Farm, where all of her foals have been born.
“Everything went well and both Leniently and foal are just fine,” said Kathy Barraclough of Saratoga Glen, shortly after the Grand Slam filly was born.
Leniently, a 7-year-old mare, is a daughter of Langfuhr (son of Danzig), a winner of three Grade 1’s who finished his career with seven consecutive Beyer Speed Figures over 100. Itsoeasy, Leniently’s dam, is a daughter of Belmont Stakes winner Easy Goer out of a Nijinsky II mare who produced Easy Grades (Honor Grades). Easy Grades is multiple graded stakes-placed and finished second in the Santa Anita Derby behind prominent stallion and former California horse of the year Came Home.
Leniently, a Kentucky-bred, was a multiple winner with an extremely high turn of early foot in her racing days. She won two of 10 starts and set a blistering pace in the Grade 3 Cicada battling with multiple Grade 1 winner Randaroo before tiring.
Grand Slam, a 12-year-old son of Gone West – Bright Candles, by El Gran Senor, has already proven brilliant at stud siring the likes of Cajun Beat, winner of the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Sprint; and multiple graded stakes winners such as Limehouse, Fire Slam, and Strong Hope. As a son of Gone West, a proven sire of Grade 1 winners (Commendable, Johar, Speightstown, etc.) and sire of sires (Elusive Quality, Mr. Greeley, etc.), Grand Slam offers plenty. He’s already sired more than 60 stakes performers and his progeny have earned more than $25 million. In 2007, he stands for $35,000, live foal, at Ashford Stud in Versailles, Kentucky.
Grand Slam, a precocious runner, won three of his first four starts as a juvenile including the Grade 1 Futurity and Grade 1 Champagne and concluded his career with a second-place finish in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Sprint as a 3-year-old. He also captured the Grade 2 Peter Pan at 1 1/8 miles. Overall, he earned nearly $1 million in purses with a record of 4-5-2 from 15 starts.
