IEAH Stables’ and others’ Mrs. Anna B, trained by John Terranova II, raced with the pace throughout and proved game for a nose victory when making her first start since her July 2006 debut in a $44,000 maiden purse at Monmouth Park on Wednesday, October 24. “She got me a little nervous for a minute on the turn when it looked like she wasn’t going to go on and maybe back out of it,” Terranova said recently. “But, Cornelio (Velasquez, jockey) got her interested again and she really responded in a very game race off such a long break. It was a very good race for her and she came out of it well, which is a major plus.” Mrs. Anna B broke fourth of eight from the outside post position and battled throughout (22.09, 45.28, 57.84) with Who Fu on her inside. Who Fu held a one-length lead after a half-mile, but Mrs. Anna B gained throughout the stretch to nail her rival on the wire. Round Trip finished 3 ¾ lengths back in third. Mrs. Anna B completed the six-furlong distance in 1:10.79 over a good main track and received a 67 Beyer Speed Figure. The Equibase chart for the race read, “Mrs. Anna B rated a slim lead two deep through the backstretch, dropped back giving chase through the turn then dug in for a long stretch drive to get the nod under the wire.” She paid $3.80 as the favorite in the betting. The race was open to maiden fillies and mares, ages 3 and up. Mrs. Anna B, with $26,400 earned for her win, now has career earnings of $35,000 with an overall mark of 1-1-0 from two starts. She is a 4-year-old daughter of Five Star Day – Wires Crossed, by Caller I.D. LAST UPDATED: November 2, 2007 |
