Sugar Punch, co-champion New York-bred 3-year-old female in 2004 owned by IEAH Stables and others, gave birth to a filly by Cherokee Run at Dan Barraclough’s Saratoga Glen Farm in New York on January 30. Sugar Punch is a 6-year-old mare by K.O. Punch – Wading Maggie, by Magesterial.
“Sugar Punch and her foal are doing just fine,” Barraclough said recently. “The foal did come a little early and was a bit weak and wobbly at first as a result. She faced some minor issues at first, but things you can manage and we did so with vitamins and staying on top of her with the vet. Sugar Punch has been an awesome mom to her foal and that is really helping. You had to figure Sugar Punch for the type to be good at anything she does.”
In 2004, Sugar Punch won all six of her starts for IEAH Stables and trainer Richard Dutrow Jr. and ended her racing career with a record of 6-1-0 from seven starts and earnings of $265,120. This is her first foal.
Sugar Punch is kin to the runners Mattie’s Code, a winner of two of seven lifetime starts ($12K); and Wade a Moment, an unraced 5-year-old.
