IEAH Stables’ and others’ Amen Hallelujah, trained by Richard Dutrow Jr., in her latest start finished second, beaten a half-length, in the Grade 1, $300,000 Acorn Stakes at Belmont Park on Saturday, June 5. She could now be pointed for the Grade 1, $250,000 Test Stakes at Saratoga Race Course on Saturday, August 7. The race for 3-year-old fillies will be run at seven furlongs on the main track. “She ran a big race in the Acorn,” Dutrow Jr. said recently. “I am a bit worried that her recent efforts may have leveled off a bit since her very big races early this year, as you always have to keep the sheet numbers in mind. “I know she trained super on the turf at Gulfstream in March and April, and I’m excited about getting her to the turf for a big race at some point. Right now, there might not be much there, so training her to the Test could be something to work with.” Since her Acorn placing, Amen Hallelujah has breezed a half-mile in 50 3/5 on June 19 over Aqueduct’s main track. In the Acorn, under jockey Ramon Dominguez, Amen Hallelujah, favored at 2.45-1, broke fifth from the five-post, raced in seventh or eighth, about anywhere from three to five lengths from the pace, for three quarters of a mile, moved wide thereafter and put in a sustained rally to then reel in all but one rival. Champagne d’Oro ($81.00) broke on top, set the pace (23.61, 46.86, 1:12.00), and staved off Amen Hallelujah late to get the score with the one-mile distance complete in 1:37.44 over a fast main track. She earned a lifetime-best 95 Beyer Speed Figure; Amen Hallelujah received a 94. Tanda finished a length behind Amen Hallelujah in third. Champagne d’Oro is a daughter of Medaglia d’Oro – Champagne Glow, by Saratoga Six. The Equibase chart for the race read, “Amen Hallelujah was in hand between horses, checked slightly and altered course five wide at the quarter pole then closed strongly in the middle of the track but could not get up.” She earned $60,000 in purses. Hot Trip was scratched from the race for 3-year-old fillies, and a field of 12 started. LAST UPDATED: June 22, 2010 |

I Want Revenge, owned by IEAH Stables and others, made his return from a 15-month break and finished third, beaten four lengths, in the Grade 2, $300,000 Suburban Handicap at Belmont Park on Saturday, July 3. “He came out of his race the right way and we are happy with him right now,” trainer Richard Dutrow Jr. said in the days following the race. “We think the Iselin will be the next nice spot for him to get a mile and an eighth around two turns and some good timing to get over this big race off a long layoff.” The Grade 3, $300,000 Philip H. Iselin Stakes will be run at Monmouth Park on Saturday, August 21. In the Suburban, I Want Revenge and jockey Joe Talamo broke third from post position 4, bobbled a bit a couple of strides from the gate, reached a stalking position on the outside and put in a run to contend before a fairly even stretch run. He was favored at 1.10-1 as part of a coupled entry with the IEAH-owned and Dutrow-trained Pictural. Following the race, Talamo said, “He came out running for me and put himself in the race. He felt great the whole way and just ran like a horse who will really benefit from a race under him off a break like that. He really felt good and came back great for me.” The Equibase chart for the race read, “I Want Revenge bobbled after the start, raced within range from the outside under a good hold, left the backstretch from the three path, was asked for a bit more run soon afterwards, made minimal progress, continued on willingly after turning for hom but had to settle for show.” Haynesfield rated in second off the pace of Regal Ransom (24.10, 46.87, 1:11.17), moved to challenge on the turn, and took command thereafter. Haynesfield drew clear in upper stretch, led by two lengths after one mile in 1:35.33, and drove clear to a 2 ¾-length win with 1 1/8 miles complete in 1:48.52 over a fast main track. He earned a lifetime-best 105 Beyer Speed Figure; I Want Revenge earned a 98, Pictural a 32. Convocation rallied late for second, 1 ¼ lengths clear of I Want Revenge, and Regal Ransom faded to fourth. Haynesfield ($9.90) is a 4-year-old son of Speightstown – Nothing Special, by Tejabo. Pictural and jockey Mike Luzzi broke awkwardly and last of seven from post position 3, and never factored. He finished last, beaten 44 ¼ lengths. Luzzi, after the race, said, “He grabbed himself a touch coming away from there and I just took care of him after that since there was really no overcoming the break. It was just the thing to do, and there will be another day for him.” Equibase: “Pictural was bumped after bobbling at the start, saved grond thereafter and was never involved.” I Want Revenge earned $30,000 in purses, Pictural $3,000. The race was open to ages 3 and up. I Want Revenge is entered to make his next start in the Grade 3, $300,000 Philip H. Iselin Stakes at Monmouth Park on Saturday, August 21. Jung Man Scott, owned by IEAH Stables and others and trained by Richard Dutrow Jr., most recently finished in a dead-heat for fourth, beaten 2 ¼ lengths, in the Grade 1, $299,000 Norfolk Breeders’ Cup Stakes at Santa Anita on Sunday, October 4. Jung Man Scott emerged from the race with a nondisplaced condylar fracture of his right front, and was scheduled to have surgery today. See Daily Racing Form story below for more. In the Norfolk, Jung Man Scott, with Rafael Bejarano riding, broke fifth from post position 8, raced in midpack much of the way, seemed to rally in spurts, encountered a bit of traffic at the top of the stretch, and did finish with good energy late. He went postward at odds of 10.50-1. Lookin at Lucky rallied from the outside in striking range in fourth to make the lead in the stretch after one mile in 1:36.65, and drove clear for a 1 ¾-length win with 1 1/16 miles complete in 1:43.11 over a fast main track. Pulsion finished second, a half-length in front of third-place finisher Gallant Gent. Jung Man Scott and John Scott finished just a nose behind in a dead-heat for fourth. Sterling Outlook, the early pacemaker (23.23, 47.54, 1:11.56), tired to finish last. Lookin at Lucky, a son of Smart Strike – Private Feeling, by Belong to Me, returned $3.60 to win as the favorite in the betting, and earned a lifetime-best 89 Beyer Speed Figure; Jung Man Scott received an 85. Lookin at Lucky is undefeated in four lifetime starts. The Equibase chart for the race read, “Jung Man Scott bobbled a bit at the start, chased outside, was in a bit tight off heels three deep into the stretch and split rivals late to share fourth.” He earned $10,000 in purses. Hurricane Ike was scratched and reduced the number of starters to 11 juveniles.
From October 5: Pair suffer fractures in Norfolk By Brad Free, Daily Racing Form ARCADIA, Calif. - While the Grade 1 Norfolk Stakes on Sunday at Santa Anita established Lookin at Lucky as the Breeders' Cup Juvenile favorite, two other colts suffered injuries in the main-track race and are off the trail. Jung Man Scott and John Scott finished in a dead heat for fourth; both sustained condylar fractures. They are sidelined until at least next year. Jung Man Scott suffered a fracture to the right front; John Scott sustained a fractured left hind. It was not clear at what point in the 1 1/16-mile Pro-Ride race that the colts were injured. They finished 2 1/4 lengths behind Lookin at Lucky, whose trainer, Bob Baffert, confirmed Monday that he came out of his victory in good shape. According to Jung Man Scott's trainer, Richard Dutrow Jr., the injury was evident immediately after the Norfolk. Jockey Rafael Bejarano said Jung Man Scott was lugging in through the lane. Dutrow said the injury was evident "right away when the jockey jumped off." Jung Man Scott was X-rayed Sunday evening. The examination revealed a nondisplaced condylar fracture of the right front. Dutrow said Jung Man Scott was scheduled to undergo surgery Tuesday to insert screws in the break. It was not clear how long the colt would be out. The injury does not change Dutrow's plans to send three horses to Santa Anita for the Breeder's Cup, he said. Dutrow trains three Breeders' Cup prospects - D' Funnybone (Juvenile), Rising Moon (Marathon), and Court Vision (Mile). Jung Man Scott, a New York-bred sired by Freud, has won 1 of 4. John Scott emerged as the leading California-bred 2-year-old this summer at Del Mar, where he won two sprints including the I'm Smokin Stakes. Carla Gaines trains the son of Bertrando, whose injury became apparent while he was cooling out. X-rays on Sunday evening confirmed the break. Gaines said the left hind fracture was not displaced, which increases the likelihood that John Scott will fully recover. "We were lucky," she said. John Scott will undergo surgery to insert a screw, or screws, in the break. John Scott has won 2 of 3. LAST UPDATED: October 6, 2009 |

Todd Quast, trainer and general manager of Gold Mark Farm in Ocala, Florida, recently took the time to update the status on a quartet of yearlings IEAH Stables currently has under his care as he prepares them for racetrack careers. "They are developing nicely and will continue to improve with time and trainin," he said recently. "They have all been broke to the walker, line driven in the round pen, and ponied in the round pen. They have also been ridden in the round pen, taken outside to the arena, and have all galloped forwardly. In the near future, they will be going out to the track. "Before the move to the track we stress a very good foundation as it enables them to better handle what will go on at the racetrack. It is early in the training process, but we've gone along without many hitches to this point." He gave insight on the individuals, stressing it is difficult to have concrete opinions at this stage because of the rapid changes in the animals which will occur mentally and physically. Stick and Move (Cherokee Run / Sugar Punch Filly): "This looks like a very quick and early filly who has a lot of energy and a good mind. She is very well behaved and does not make any mistakes. She is light on her feet and covers a lot of ground. She is sound and does not make any noise with her throat. I think she could be an early prospect if we want her to be. She is aggressive in her training and shows a good and fluid action." For more information on Gold Mark Farm, call 352-369-3377 or visit www.goldmarkfarm.com. The full-service, state-of-the-art training facility’s features include a three-quarter-mile Safetrack synthetic surface, two 36-stall barns, two fully enclosed walkers and round pens, 10 wash racks, a toe ring, and arena. Wishful Tomcat, heavily favored at .40-1, broke on top from post position 2 under rider Ramon Dominguez, made his way to his typical spot on the pace (23.60, 48.63, 1:13.83), and was overtaken in the stretch to come up second best behind More than a Reason. Wishful Tomcat finished 6 ¼ lengths clear of Lord Justice for the place award. The Equibase chart for the race read, “Wishful Tomcat away from the gate in good order, fought the bit while being rated on the lead, finally settled down midway during the run down the backstretch, continued to show the way slightly off the inside until the furlong grounds, failed to stave off the top one’s bold stretch charge, despite being put to urging, but had plenty left to be well clear of the remaining twosome for place honors.” He earned $10,600 in purses. The scratch of Reflect Times reduced the number of starters to five, with National Pride stumbling at the break and unseating his rider. The race was open to ages 4 and up which have not won $40,000 twice since August 1 or which have never won four races other than maiden, claiming, starter, or restricted, or optional claiming price of $100,000.
