In 2000, Gander finished second in the Grade 1 Jockey Club Gold Cup, third in the Grade 1 Woodward Stakes and third in the Saratoga Breeders' Cup Handicap. After the Jockey Club Gold Cup performance, Gatsas Stable paid $360,000 to supplement Gander to the 2000 Breeders' Cup Classic. Gander finished eighth in the Breeders' Cup Classic. He was also supplemented to the 2001 Breeders' Cup Classic and finished ninth.
• Gander was named the New York Horse of the Year and the Champion New York Older Horse in 2000. As a 4-year-old in 2000, he was 3-1-2 from 11 starts with earnings of $388,290. Gander was also named the Champion New York 3-Year-Old in 1999.
